In 1984, a woman named Judi began renting cars to friends who came to visit. Her friends told their friends, & well, Judi had to buy more cars. As her business grew, Judi extended the same friendly personal service to everyone who rented from Judi of Croix. She ran the business for about 7 years & sold it to the Denners, whom many of you know. They increased the number of cars, & updated the fleet. After 13 years, they sold the business to us, Chris & Christie Powers. “Judi of Croix” seems to be a take-off of “Helen of Troy”. It gives the business a spirit of playfulness.

We first came to St. Croix in November, 2002, to run a Bed & Breakfast Inn for a few months, & rented a car from Judi of Croix. After that, we traveled the Caribbean & found the islands to be wonderful! We enjoyed meeting people from so many places, the rich Caribbean culture, lots of sun, & warm water with abundant undersea life! We returned to St. Croix, & ran Judi of Croix for 2 ½ months while the Denners were on vacation.

Judi of Croix & the island of St. Croix met all of our desires for a new life. We were able to work together from our home with wonderful people in a beautiful tropical island. When the Denners returned from vacation, we said, “We really liked living here, & liked running the business. If you ever think about selling, give us a call.” And, they did!

In February of 2004, we moved from Oregon to St. Croix with our two cats, Ansel & Red. Rambeau, a 16 year old Cruzian mix dog, came with the business, & our new dog, Carla, is a wonderful addition to the family “pack”.

One of the reasons we knew we would enjoy this work is our Lot Manager, Kingsley Roberts. Since he was here with the previous owners, he helped us get started, & is a wonderful person to work with. And now, friendly Dan McDaid has joined us. “We pull good together,” as they say here, meaning that we are a good team.

We both love to snorkel, scuba dive, swim, garden, cook, walk, read, & eat! Chris is a big baseball fan. Christie is an artist.

Over the years, Judi of Croix has grown, but the commitment to friendly, personal service has been constant. We treat you like family & friends, just like the original Judi did.

Hi! I am Kingsley Roberts, originally from Antigua. In 1969 I felt like a change, and moved to St. Thomas. While I was there, I worked for a car rental company for twenty years. I moved to St. Croix in 1998, and this has been my home ever since

On St. Croix, I met the former owners of Judi of Croix, and began working for the company. Now I am Lot Manager, and the company is owned by Chris and Christie Powers, who are very polite and friendly to their customers. I like to meet our customers and answer their questions about St. Croix—the great restaurants, the beaches, and how to get places.

I have a big, close family. Every year we go on a cruise of the Caribbean islands. It’s a time for me to relax, see the sights, and meet and talk with people from all kinds of different places.
 

Dan McDaid. Good Day. My name is Dan McDaid. I came to St. Croix as a Scuba Instructor and Boat Captain in 2000, for one year. I guess you can tell I like it here. Along with my wife Gale and our dog Scoops (it’s the ears), we have made St. Croix our home. I came to work at Judi of Croix for the 2006 season, and am now a full time employee (they can’t get rid of me). I still dive and run boats on my days off, enjoying the Caribbean sea, which brought me here in the first place.
